Various eco-artists have generated the wave of realization of current environmental changes with their green creations and designs. Umpteen other green initiatives like recycling and pollution reduction, green manufacturing, renewable energy, etc. also provide us with solutions to environmental issues. Along with that, eco fashion is also evolving readily and is becoming popular. The very new eco-couture, the swimwear made of eco-friendly and sustainable materials, will debut at the Fashion Swim Week in Miami, Florida this year.
This is the first time models will be walking the 50 foot ramp at Setai hotel in Miami Beach, wearing swimsuits that are created innovatively out of sustainable, recycled, and repurposed fabrics. The solar powered bikinis will also make its debut in the event called ‘Haute Natured’ that is organised by the team of Mogul Events and ecosystem. Various eco friendly designers like Linda Loudermilk, Meadow, MAE and Jenni Saylor (with her Eco-swims) assembled together for the event. All of these designers, who have created fashion with natural or recycled things and have stayed away from synthetic fabrics, have united together to bring up environmental consciousness and also to raise funds for Seakeeper’s Society. The eco friendly, fully compostable swimwear, which were presented for the first time before public, were crafted out of fabric made of wood pulp, bamboo, or ‘ up cycled’ factory waste of cotton and nylon. Recycled plastic bottles as well as repurposed military parachute materials were also used to make these green bikinis. .
Linda Loudermilk has designed her bikinis out of plant starch, which, she said, would decompose completely within 180 days once it was embedded under soil. She had also printed environmental images on her beach wraps to pay tribute to Mother Nature. On the other hand the designer of ‘Eco-swim,’ Jenni Saylor has used eco-cell foam bra cups that are created out of biodegradable plant oil. She has also made use of recycled cotton, nylon, and polyester to style up her fashion swim wears. Unluckily, the solar powered bikinis couldn’t make it up to the show. But these were the bikinis made out of pliable photo-voltaic strips that could actually recharge small gadgets like your mobile phones. Fashion designers have been playing around with natural as well as organic fibres for years, but now as eco fashion is in trend and is becoming highly popular amongst people; it’s the correct time for designers to think about how to go green in their haute couture.
